Matt's company was preparing a comics adaptation of the Joe Schreiber novel. They wanted something different than the book, but still "classic thriller/horror". We tried a bunch of different approaches, from Art Deco-era noir, to modern day grunge, but nothing quite clicked until we hit upon the ragged monster movie-type block letters. Once we incorporated the saw shape into the letters, it took on a bit of a Saul Bass spy thriller kind of feel. We experimented with alternate saw shapes, and even tried the car from the front cover, but in the end, the original saw worked best. Adding the teeth to the bottom of "chasing" provided the finishing touch!
